Three third-grade students from the Community Schools of Frankfort have been recognized by the Indiana Department of Education for achieving scores in the top 2 percent of all third-graders in Indiana on the state-mandated ILEARN mathematics assessment.
The recognized students include Penelope Baker of Suncrest Elementary, as well as Mateo Barrera Campos and Leo Alarcon-Martinez, both of whom attend Green Meadows Intermediate.
National Math Stars Opportunity
Based on their ILEARN assessment data, the three students have earned the opportunity to apply for the National Math Stars program. This initiative is part of a statewide effort led by the Indiana Department of Education in partnership with National Math Stars, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students who demonstrate strong potential in mathematics.
Students selected for the program receive long-term academic support designed to foster their mathematical growth. This support includes assistance in accessing advanced math coursework and various enrichment experiences. The program provides guidance for the students’ families and offers opportunities for the participants to connect with a nationwide network of peers who share similar academic interests.
Recognition and Application Process
As part of the recognition process, each of the three students received a nomination packet. These packets include a letter of recognition, an award medal, and the necessary application information for the students’ families to pursue enrollment in the National Math Stars program.
Applications for the program are due in June. The Indiana Department of Education and National Math Stars will announce the selected students later this summer.
