Frederick Forsyth, the celebrated author known for his gripping thriller, The Day of the Jackal, has died at age 86. Literary agency Curtis Brown confirmed that Forsyth passed away Monday morning after a short illness, surrounded by family.
Forsyth, a former Royal Air force pilot and investigative journalist, transitioned to become a best-selling novelist. His experiences covering international events, including an assassination attempt on French President Charles de Gaulle, fueled the plot of The Day of the Jackal, published in 1971.The book became a hit and was adapted into a film in 1973, and later a TV series starring Eddie Redmayne.
Beyond The Day of the Jackal, Forsyth penned other notable crime novels, including The Fox, The Kill List, and The Afghan. Born in Ashford, Kent, in 1938, he joined the RAF in 1956 before embarking on his journalism career.
