Singapore’s Government Technology Agency (GovTech) is exploring the development of a government-run dating service designed for singles under the age of 35.
The proposed service, titled Firstdate
, came to light through a public feedback survey circulated in April 2026. The survey was distributed to members of the public via CrowdTask, an online platform utilized by government agencies to conduct public polling.
According to the survey materials, users of the proposed service would be required to complete a 10-minute questionnaire. The platform would then use this information to provide matches based on the interests and values of the participants.
To encourage participation and facilitate initial meetings, the service would provide matched couples with a free meal. These meals would be selected from a curated list of restaurants.
The proposed platform would integrate Singpass to require all users to verify their identities. The promotional write-up for the service stated, We’ve got your first date covered,
and asserted that the platform would ensure No fakes, no drama.
Project Origins and Status
The idea for Firstdate originated during GovTech’s annual hackathon. During this event, employees propose solutions to various problems, and teams with shortlisted ideas are given the opportunity to turn those concepts into products.

Despite the details shared in the April 13, 2026, survey regarding visual design and functionality, GovTech has clarified that the project is in a preliminary stage.
This particular idea is still at a very early, exploratory stage and nothing has been confirmed
GovTech spokesperson
The agency noted that its internal innovation process involves a high volume of such explorations. A spokesperson for GovTech added that hundreds of these explorations occur at various stages, and the majority do not progress beyond the initial research or concept phase.
