“We’re quite ecstatic,” said Chris Thompson,operations manager at SMART Transit.“I can’t even explain how wonderful news it is.”
The initiative was sparked by a group of Albert Lea residents who approached SMART Transit earlier this year, highlighting the urgent need for expanded medical transportation. SMART Transit already operates a accomplished free ride program for seniors in Mower County, funded by Mayo Clinic grants. However, securing funding for Freeborn County proved challenging until the Naeve Health Care Foundation stepped in.
