The city of São Paulo is expanding access to sexual health services through a series of itinerant health actions aimed at the early diagnosis and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These initiatives bring testing and prophylaxis directly to high-traffic urban areas, including major transit hubs and public squares.
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the municipal government is operating a mobile unit of the Centro de Testagem e Aconselhamento (CTA) at Largo do Arouche. This itinerant action, which also took place on Friday, May 1, 2026, provides the public with testing, prevention resources, and health counseling in the center of the capital.
Public Transit Health Initiatives
In addition to the activities in the city center, health services were recently deployed to the CPTM rail network. On Thursday, April 30, 2026, the Guaianases and Tatuapé stations hosted health actions specifically focused on the prevention and diagnosis of HIV and other STIs.
According to Agência SP, the services at these stations included the distribution of HIV self-tests and the provision of private cabins where passengers could perform the tests with or without supervision. The initiative also offered Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for individuals who may have been exposed to HIV through sexual relations.
The transit-based actions operated between 10 a.m. And 3 p.m., focusing on reducing barriers to healthcare by integrating diagnostic services into the daily commute of passengers in the eastern zone of the city.
Available Services and Preventive Care
The mobile units deployed by the city, such as the CTA Móvel, are designed to provide immediate clinical responses. Beyond rapid testing for HIV and other STIs, these units offer guidance and the immediate start of treatment or prophylaxis for those who test positive.

The primary goals of these itinerant services include:
- Expanding the reach of early diagnosis for HIV, syphilis, and viral hepatitis.
- Increasing the distribution of condoms and self-testing kits.
- Providing immediate access to PrEP and other preventive medications.
- Offering a welcoming environment for marginalized populations to seek sexual health care.
By relocating these services from traditional clinics to public spaces like Largo do Arouche and CPTM stations, health officials aim to normalize STI testing and reach individuals who may not typically visit a healthcare facility for preventive screenings.
