Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid claimed another wheelchair tennis doubles title, capping off a day that began with the two as singles opponents. After a first set marked by numerous breaks, the perennial champions found smoother sailing in the second, despite challenging conditions.
Earlier, Hewett, seeded second, defeated Reid 6-2, 6-4 in the singles quarter-final. Hewett is set to face fourth seed Fernandez in the singles semi-finals.
In other action, Andy Lapthorne faced two defeats in men’s quad wheelchair events. he first lost in the singles semi-final to top seed Niels Vink of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-4.
