Lorenzo Musetti, the 23-year-old Italian who recently cracked the top 10, is showcasing remarkable form on the clay courts of Roland Garros. His strong play in the French Open follows a string of successes, including a runner-up finish at the Monte Carlo Masters in April and semi-final appearances at both the Madrid Open and Italian Open this month.
Musetti expressed confidence in his current trajectory. “This month has been astonishing. I’ve reached many of my goals,” Musetti said. “But I think the best is yet to come. I’ve managed to find a way to make the click I needed to step forward in the rankings and in my level.”
Musetti’s next challenge will be against Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia in the second round. Galan entered the draw as a lucky loser.
Tommy Paul, the No. 12 seed from the United States, battled back after dropping the first set to defeat Elmer Moeller of Denmark 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
