The quarter-final lineup for the 2025–26 Investec Champions Cup has begun to take shape following the conclusion of the round of 16. French clubs Toulouse, Bordeaux Bègles, and Toulon have all secured their places in the next stage of the top-tier European rugby union competition.
Bordeaux Bègles, the defending champions having won their first title in the 2024–25 season, advanced after defeating Leicester. Toulouse also progressed to the quarter-finals, securing their spot by defeating Bristol. Both French sides are noted for having dominated their respective English opponents during the round of 16 matches.
In other results, Northampton Saints have also secured a quarter-final berth after overcoming Castres. The match saw Northampton recover from an early 12-0 deficit, which Castres established within the first 11 minutes through tries from Theo Chabouni and Christian Ambadiang.
Northampton regained momentum following a penalty try and a yellow card issued to Ambadiang. Danilo Fischetti scored for the Saints, though they trailed 15-14 at halftime. In the second half, captain George Furbank played a pivotal role, assisting a try for Josh Kemeny before scoring an outstanding try of his own.
Additional tries for Northampton were scored by Tommy Freeman, McParland, and Fraser Dingwall. Castres remained competitive throughout the contest, with Tyler Ardron, Vuate Karawalevu, and a second try from Ambadiang keeping the score close until the final whistle.
Upcoming Quarter-Final Matchups
The bracket for the quarter-finals is beginning to solidify. Phil Dowson’s Northampton Saints are scheduled to face the winner of an all-English clash between Bath and Saracens.

The Investec Champions Cup is the premier competition for clubs competing in the English Premiership, French Top 14, and the United Rugby Championship. Teams qualify based on their final positions in these leagues or by winning the second-tier Challenge Cup.
Challenge Cup Developments
Parallel to the Champions Cup, the second-tier European Rugby Challenge Cup is also progressing. Montpellier and La Rochelle have both advanced to the quarter-finals of this competition.
The Champions Cup is organized by European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) and is currently in its 2025–26 season. Historically, the competition was known as the Heineken Cup from its inaugural 1995–96 season until 2014, before transitioning to the European Rugby Champions Cup and later the Investec Champions Cup for sponsorship reasons.
Toulouse currently holds the record for the most titles in the competition’s history, with six titles won across both versions of the elite club championship.
