Television personality Scott Evans has transitioned from a prominent role in national broadcasting to an independent creator and owner through the development of his self-funded enterprise, House Guest. The project, which Evans describes as a way to define his own success, has evolved from a practice run into a multi-award-winning platform that emphasizes community and creative autonomy.
The move toward ownership was formalized with the release of House Guest on Juneteenth 2024. Evans has indicated that the decision to launch the show was driven by a desire for professional independence and a need to create content that fills specific gaps within the current media landscape. He has characterized the project as a way to prepare for the next phase of his career, which he intends to focus on late-night programming.

Early Foundations and the Influence of Indianapolis
The trajectory toward Evans’ current career began with early educational and community influences in Indianapolis, Indiana. He credits his kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Cook, with establishing a foundation of self-determination. Each morning, following the Pledge of Allegiance, the class would recite the I Am Somebody
poem by Rev. Jesse Jackson, a practice Evans says emboldened students to see themselves as worthy.
His interest in media was further cultivated through his mother’s work with the Indiana Black Expo (IBE), a nonprofit organization known for hosting the Summer Celebration, one of the country’s longest-running cultural expositions. Through IBE, Evans received hands-on training in video storytelling using industry-standard equipment under the instruction of Ryan Bennett. He noted that the program demanded excellence and provided a direct view of successful Black professionals.
IBE also hosted a summer teen talk forum titled Holla Back,
which featured prominent figures in Black entertainment. Evans participated in hosting this forum, an experience he says brought him closer to his professional aspirations.
From Local News to National Recognition
Evans entered the professional media industry at the age of 19, becoming the first African American to serve as the youngest on-court host for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. Following this role, he moved into national broadcasting as an anchor for the educational program Channel One News.

A pivotal moment in his career occurred during an interview with Taylor Swift, which served as a successful audition for Access Hollywood. The positive reception of that assignment led to his recruitment by the show. Evans served as the East Coast correspondent before moving to the Los Angeles office as a correspondent, eventually earning a promotion to co-host in 2019.
His professional portfolio expanded to include hosting duties for NBC’s World of Dance and USA’s America’s Next Big Deal, as well as appearing in Peacock’s Couple to Throuple. Evans has attributed his professional development to the accumulation of what he describes as 10,000 hours of experience, a concept highlighted in Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers.
The Rise of House Guest
While House Guest was initially intended as a way to practice and demonstrate success in a self-directed space, its first episode featuring guest KevOnStage went viral. This unexpected growth prompted Evans to shift from private practice to creating a dedicated space designed to celebrate individuals who he believes are often under-celebrated in mainstream media.
The enterprise has garnered significant industry recognition, including:
- The Webby Award for Interview, Talk & After-Show, Series & Channels (Video & Film)
- Two NAACP Image Award nominations
- The LA Press Club Award
- Nominations from GLAAD and Queerty
Evans has integrated the philosophy of the Indiana Black Expo into his production model, citing the organization’s pillar of working together works
as a guiding principle for his small production crew.
Touring and Community Engagement
To bring the show’s energy to a wider audience, Evans has embarked on a tour for House Guest. The tour has seen sold-out performances in several major cities, including New York City, Atlanta, and Chicago.
Evans has stated that the success of the show is tied to the connection felt with the audience and the ability to build a sense of community through the program.
