The singles quarterfinals of the men’s tennis Rolex Paris Masters (France/Paris, indoor hard, ATP Masters) were held on November 1st. 13th seed Holger Rune (Denmark) defeated 9th seed Alex de Minaur (Australia) in a thrilling match, winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. This marks Rune’s second time advancing to the semifinals in two years, following his success in 2022.

In the same tournament in 2022, Rune defeated notable players such as Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland), Hubert Hurkacz (Poland), Andrey Rublev, Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada), and Novak Djokovic (Serbia), ultimately winning the “ATP Masters 1000” title. This was Rune’s first victory at the age of 21.

In this year’s tournament, Rune defeated Matteo Arnaldi (Italy), ranked 38th in the world, in the first round, followed by Alexander Bublik (Kazakhstan), ranked 33rd, in the second round, and Arthur Cazeaux (France), ranked 85th, in the third round to advance to the quarterfinals.

De Minaur, on the other hand, advanced by defeating world No. 15 Jack Draper (UK) in the third round.

In the first set of the quarterfinals, Rune won points with a high probability of 82% when receiving his first serve, taking the lead without allowing a single break to de Minaur. In the second set, he allowed one break and was caught up with a set count of 1-1, but in the final set, he fought for one break each and succeeded in getting a second break in the final stages. He secured his spot in the semifinals in 2 hours and 26 minutes.

Rune’s comments are posted on the official ATP website, the men’s professional tennis association. “He (De Minaur) made a lot of passes to me. He made every ball of high quality and carried the ball deep in the court. I adjusted my game a little bit. We had to do it, and it was a constant battle. But the way we approached the game towards the end was really good.”

In the semifinals, Rune will face third seed Alexander Zverev (Germany). Zverev advanced by defeating 10th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

On the same day, 15th seed Ugo Humbert (France) and world No. 21 Karen Khachanov advanced to the semifinals.
