From Charity to Self-Sufficiency: The Inspiring Story of a Proud Worker Who Swept Her Way to Success with Flower Brooms
From Begging to Entrepreneurship: Disabled Individuals in Rajbari Find New Hope
In a heartwarming turn of events, disabled individuals in Rajbari, who once relied on begging to survive, have found a new sense of purpose and pride in making flower brooms.
These individuals, who were once forced to beg on Daulatdia Ghat, have now formed the Goland Upazila Disability Development Organization, which has empowered them to take control of their lives and become self-reliant.
The organization, which consists of 474 disabled members, has been instrumental in providing its members with the necessary skills and resources to make flower brooms, which are then sold in local markets.
According to the members, the idea to make flower brooms was born out of necessity, as the construction of the Padma Bridge had significantly reduced the number of passengers at the ghat, resulting in a decline in charity.
With the help of the organization, these disabled individuals have been able to turn their lives around and are now proud employees, earning a living through their hard work and dedication.
Halim Sheikh, a disabled member of the organization, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to make flower brooms, stating that it has improved his life significantly.
Local residents have also praised the efforts of the disabled individuals, stating that they are now contributing members of society, rather than relying on charity.
Monnaf Sheikh, general secretary of the Goland Upazila Disability Development Organization, highlighted the challenges faced by the organization in sourcing raw materials, but emphasized the determination of its members to succeed.
Ratan Sheikh, president of the organization, appealed to the public to support the disabled individuals by purchasing their flower brooms and waiving market rent for their sales.
Jyoti Vikas Chandra, executive officer of the Gowaland Upazila, praised the efforts of the disabled individuals and announced that the upazila administration has provided a grant of Tk 1 lakh and an interest-free loan of Tk 2 lakh to support their endeavors.
