Kathy Bates Reveals 100-Pound Weight Loss in Six Years
Kathy Bates, the 76-year-old actress famous for her role in ‘Misery,’ has shared her inspiring weight loss journey. In a recent interview with Variety, Bates discussed how she lost 100 pounds (approximately 45 kg) over six years.
Bates, who recently appeared on the CBS reboot of “Matlock,” explained that prioritizing her health and losing weight helped her keep up with the demanding filming schedule. “I’ve lost 100 pounds over the last six or seven years, which has really helped me,” Bates said. “I don’t think I’ve been this lean since I was in college.”
Bates recalled that her heaviest period was in 2011, while starring in the NBC series “Harry’s Law.” “I had to sit down every moment I could. It was hard to walk. I’m embarrassed that I let my body get so out of shape, but now I have so much energy.”
Fans have speculated that Bates may have used Ozempic, a diabetes medication that has gained popularity as a weight loss drug among celebrities. However, Bates has not publicly confirmed this.
In a 2019 interview with Extra, Bates shared that she had lost 60 pounds and was “the healthiest I’ve been in years and I’m so grateful. It’s a miracle. I have diabetes. It runs in my family and I really didn’t want to live with it.”
Bates has faced several health challenges, including ovarian cancer in 2003 and a double mastectomy for breast cancer in 2012. She has also developed lymphedema, a condition that affects the lymphatic system.
Despite these challenges, Bates remains passionate about her acting career. In a recent interview with the New York Times, she expressed her desire to continue acting, saying, “My friends say that I will probably die sitting on a chair on stage like Molière. The stage is really my lifeblood.”
