[파이낸셜뉴스] The story of a man in his 30s who paid off 200 million won in debt in 5 months by selling meat at a supermarket attracted attention.
On the 21st, the story of Choi Sang-hoon, CEO of a livestock company, was revealed on the YouTube channel ‘Human Story’.
CEO Choi, who had 200 million won in debt due to a business failure five years ago, was looking for a job he could do without any money, and after seeing a job posting at a supermarket butcher shop, he got a job as a sales worker and entered the livestock industry.
CEO Choi said, “(The place I got a job at) was a butcher shop located in a supermarket, and it said in the notice that it would allow you to earn as much as you sold, so I went there. I looked into whether I could make a lot of money here, but I went all in because I was convinced by the vulgar language.” He confessed.
Accordingly, he said he received 36 million won as his first salary and 52 million won as his second salary. He, who paid off a debt of 200 million won in 5 months, said, “I saved over 200 million won, distributed it to my family, and gave 1 million won each to exactly 20 people who helped me when I was having a hard time.”
Regarding the secret to achieving good results from the first month, “At first, even when we asked people to buy meat, no one bought it.
“Most of the people doing the grocery shopping are housewives, and even when I explained about meat in my own way, they said, ‘You don’t know about meat,’” he recalled.
He continued, “I was worried about how I should talk to customers so that they would like it. I felt like they would be repulsed because I wanted to sell and talk to them. I tried to erase that feeling and make customers feel interested in talking to me.”
At that time, CEO Choi stayed at the mart until midnight with the thought of learning something. He said, “I thought that in order to beat someone, I had to work twice as hard and study twice as much. So, I usually get off work around 5 or 6 o’clock, but I continued selling until 12 o’clock.”
He added, “I was in a hurry, so I didn’t have time to worry about work-life balance. I didn’t have the time, money, or time to take care of my parents, so I just worked.”
After about a year of employment, he quit his job at the butcher shop and started his own business. He said, “I started my own business and opened a store in a supermarket to sell meat,” and was proud to have achieved annual sales of 11.8 billion won last year.
Lastly, CEO Choi said, “I studied while working and created and grew the business knowing that in order to grow the business, there must be an ‘organization and system.’ As I did this, the business grew a lot.
“We are selling it not only in supermarkets and supermarkets, but also in department stores.”
