From F1 Fallout to IndyCar Opportunity: Logan Sargent Takes the Wheel

From F1 Fallout to IndyCar Opportunity: Logan Sargent Takes the Wheel

September 24, 2024 Catherine Williams Health

Logan Sargent will be behind the wheel of an IndyCar for the first time since leaving Williams F1.

American Sargent will return to his home country to test with Meyer Shank Racing, who will evaluate him for a future ride.

Although Sargent is originally from Florida, he moved to Europe as a youngster and has little experience racing in the United States. Now that he has been let go by Williams, IndyCar is likely his next destination.

Logan’s first test will take place on November 19 at the Thermal Club in California. The Thermal Club is currently a private track, but will become an official event course next season.

Meyer Shank Racing, whose lead driver Felix Rosenqvist finished 12th this season, told RACER magazine that the test, conducted by Sargent on a 17-turn, 3.067-mile circuit, was the final day of evaluation.

This isn’t the first time Sargent has been linked to IndyCar. In July, it was revealed that Prema was in talks with Sargent ahead of joining the series in 2025.

At the time, Sargent said that while he was focused on driving in F1, he was also exploring alternatives.

“I’m focused on my job and making the most of what I have,” Sargent said. “We are currently considering all options inside and outside of Formula 1. Our options are open.”

“I’ve been hearing rumors for a year and a half now, but I finally know what’s going on behind the scenes. And in the end, I feel like I’m riding really well. My goal is to continue like this.”

Sargent’s absence has not had a major impact on Williams. His replacement, Franco Colapinto, continues to perform well despite being at the beginning of his F1 career.

Argentine Colapinto had a great start to the Singapore Grand Prix but finished outside the points in 10th place.

“It’s disappointing that I was in the top 10 at the start of the race and I couldn’t finish in the top 10 at the end,” Colapinto said. “It’s a difficult track to overtake, so I think it was possible to keep the points and keep (Sergio) Perez behind.”

“However, we were unable to defend our full potential and our pit stop was one lap late, which caused us to drop down the standings. This is the reality and as a team we share victories and defeats.”

“My tyre management was good throughout the race, but I struggled a bit physically and that was a bigger limiting factor.”

“Overall, 11th place is still a good result and it was a very positive race to apply what we have learned so far.”
