From Mumbai Slums to Urban Golf World Cup in Winterthur
Suresh Mehboobani, who once learned to play golf in the alleyways and slums of Mumbai, is competing in the Urban Golf World Championship in Winterthur, according to reporting by the Tages-Anzeiger.
The international tournament brings together 88 players hailing from nine different countries to compete in the Swiss municipality. Urban golf adapts the traditional sport for city streets, parks, and industrial environments, using modified equipment and non-traditional holes.
From Mumbai Slums to Swiss Streets

Mehboobani’s journey to the Winterthur competition stems from his origins developing the game in dense urban environments where traditional courses were out of reach. His early experiences in Mumbai shaped a unique approach to the sport that he now brings to the international field in Switzerland.
The Urban Golf World Championship highlights how the sport has evolved from informal beginnings into an organized global discipline. Players from across the globe navigate urban obstacles, testing precision and adaptability on courses laid out through cityscapes rather than manicured country clubs.
