From Police Ranks to Zamalek Glory: The Unstoppable Rise of a Football Phenomenon
Zamalek Qualifies for Confederations Cup Group Stage
Zamalek, the first Egyptian football team, has secured a spot in the group stage of the Confederations Cup after defeating Kenya Police 2-1 in the second leg of the tournament’s second qualifying round.
The match, held at the Cairo International Stadium, saw Zamalek dominate the game, applying pressure on their opponents from the start. In the 20th minute, Nabil Imad Dunga’s shot from outside the penalty area went wide of the left post.
Four minutes later, Kenya Police goalkeeper Matasi Patrick made a crucial save, blocking a powerful shot by Ahmed Said Zizo. Patrick continued to impress, blocking another shot by Mustafa Shalabi in the 36th minute.
The first half ended in a goalless draw, but Zamalek’s persistence paid off in the second half. Ahmed Saeed Zizoo scored the first goal in the 56th minute, capitalizing on captain Omar Gaber’s pass from the left.
Just four minutes later, Nasser Maher scored a second goal, pressuring the Police defense to snap the ball and shoot into the net. Although Zamalek’s pressure eased after the second goal, allowing Police to attack, Jesse Ray’s goal in the 66th minute was not enough to change the outcome.
