Adam Iza grew up in Iraq and faced poverty. He borrowed a computer from his uncle before moving to the U.S. as a teenager. In America, he became wealthy by creating a successful cryptocurrency trading platform.
However, as Iza gained wealth, he attracted bad influences. His lawyer, Josef Sadat, claims that Iza hired people in Southern California to do criminal work for him. This reportedly included multiple Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
At least six deputies have been removed from duty due to this case. The investigation began when Iza was arrested in September 2023. Federal officials called him “the godfather” and accused him of financial crimes and extortion. Iza, now 24, pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody while awaiting trial.
The case started to unfold in September when authorities indicated that several deputies took part in extortion schemes with Iza. The number of implicated officials grew, leading to reviews of time sheets and additional scrutiny of other deputies.
Iza allegedly paid a sheriff’s deputy over $100,000 monthly for private security. During a party in August 2021 at Iza’s mansion, bodyguards held the event planner at gunpoint. Iza took the planner’s phone to transfer funds because he was unhappy with the party’s outcome.

A few years after getting that computer, I managed to secure a visa and eventually migrated to the U.S. as a teenager.

Adam Iza: It’s important to clarify that while I did hire people to help with operations, I never intended to engage in anything illegal or unethical. I recognize now that I was naive about the intentions of some individuals I surrounded myself with. It was a learning experience, and I’m focused on moving forward and rectifying any mistakes made.

Adam Iza: I’ve started by restructuring my business and surrounding myself with trusted advisors who have a strong ethical compass. Transparency is crucial. The deputies involved are accused of using their positions to gather personal information about Iza’s enemies and looking up records using law enforcement databases.
In addition to extortion, Iza is accused of hiding millions from tax authorities through shell companies. Some money was used for cosmetic leg-lengthening surgery, which has caused him medical issues.
During a court appearance, Iza appeared with a cane due to complications from the surgery. His lawyer expressed urgency for additional surgery, claiming Iza’s health was at risk. However, the judge denied a request for release to seek urgent medical care, citing Iza as a flight risk.
