From Rhymes to Ruin: The Shocking Downfall of a Hip-Hop Mogul’s Violent Past
Sean Diddy Combs Denied Bail in Federal Court
Hip-hop mogul Sean Diddy Combs, 54, has been denied bail and will remain in custody for trial after being arrested by US federal investigative authorities.
Combs, who was arrested by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations in a hotel in Manhattan, New York, appeared in a federal district court in Manhattan and denied the charges.
Combs’ representative proposed that he be detained at home in Miami with bail set at $50 million, but this was not accepted by Judge Robin Tarnowski.
Judge Tarnowski expressed concerns that Combs’ charges were “the type of crime that can be committed behind closed doors, away from outside surveillance” and that “there are no conditions that can guarantee that he will appear in court after his release.”
Allegations of Prostitution and Organized Crime
According to the indictment, Combs is accused of using his reputation to coerce women into engaging in sexual misconduct as part of a prostitution and organized crime scheme.
Prosecutors also alleged that Combs had been running a criminal organization to exploit women for at least 16 years.
Prosecutor Damian Williams stated that Combs “led a criminal organization that carried out kidnapping, extortion, and prostitution” and that he “used the business empire he controlled to engage in criminal acts, including prostitution, kidnapping, and arson.”
Potential Sentence
If convicted of charges including racketeering and prostitution conspiracy, Combs could face a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and up to life in prison.
Previous Allegations
Combs was previously accused of sexual assault by Joey Dickerson-Neil, a woman who had appeared in his music videos.
He was also sued by producer Rodney Jones, who worked with him, for allegedly forcing him to procure prostitutes.
Last May, controversy arose when pictures were released of him attacking his ex-girlfriend in a hotel lobby in Los Angeles in March 2016.
