Fujitsu Laptops with Blu-ray Drives Still Popular in Japan
Fujitsu Defies Trend with Optical Drive-Equipped Laptop
In a market increasingly dominated by cloud storage and digital distribution, Fujitsu is bucking the trend by releasing a new laptop, the FMV Note A WA3-K3, that includes an internal optical drive as a standard feature. Available now in Japan, the laptop starts at ¥124,800,which translates to roughly $800 USD as of October 26,2025.
Fujitsu offers tiered configurations for the FMV Note A WA3-K3.While all versions come equipped with an optical drive, customers opting for the premium model will find it upgraded to a Blu-ray drive. This upgrade adds approximately ¥10,000 (around $70 USD) to the overall price.
The decision to maintain optical drive support is notable given the industry-wide shift away from these components. many manufacturers have eliminated optical drives to reduce laptop weight and thickness. Fujitsu’s move suggests a recognition that a segment of the market still values the functionality and convenience offered by physical media.
Fujitsu’s latest offering demonstrates that internal optical drives haven’t entirely disappeared from the laptop landscape.
The FMV Note A WA3-K3 is currently onyl available in Japan. There is no current indication of whether Fujitsu plans to release the laptop in other regions.
