FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup 2024: Japan Advances to Final Tournament

The qualifying pool has ended. Five teams will compete in a round-robin format, and the top two will advance to the final tournament. The 3×3 Japan Women’s National Team had three teams with two wins and three losses, and unfortunately lost in the qualifying round in third place due to the difference in total points.
Japan’s 3×3 Women’s U23 National Team got off to a good start with a 21-16 KO win against New Zealand in their first match. In the next match against the USA, the score was 9-9 until the middle of the match. However, the USA steadily gained points, and Japan lost 14-21, resulting in a 1-1 win and 1-1 loss.
Japan’s 3×3 Men’s U23 National Team is in a tough qualifying pool with China, Mongolia, and the Netherlands, the winner of the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer. After suffering a 13-21 KO loss to China, they next faced the host country, Mongolia. #17 Haruaki Tanaka (Komazawa University, ALPHAS.EXE) led the team with 7 points, the most on the team.
Today, Sunday, September 15th, is the final day. The Japan Men’s U23 National Team will face Lithuania in the quarterfinals at 16:05 (Japan time). Their highest ranking in the past was sixth place in 2022, and they are aiming to advance to the semifinals for the first time.
