Ahn Deok-soo Appointed as New Secretary General of Women’s Korean Basketball League
About Ahn Deok-soo
Ahn Deok-su (50), current commentator and former coach of Cheongju KB Stars, has been appointed as the new secretary general of the Women’s Korean Basketball League (WKBL).
According to WKBL, former coach Ahn Deok-soo was appointed as secretary general through the team leaders’ council on the 25th. The appointment of Secretary General Ahn Deok-soo will be finalized through a board of directors meeting.
Once the appointment of the Secretary General is finalized through the board of directors, Ahn Deok-soo will begin his duties in February of next year, when the term of the current Secretary General, Kim Yong-doo, ends. The term is three years.
Background and Experience
Secretary-General-designate Ahn Deok-soo, a graduate of Kyushu Sangyo University in Japan, played for Samsung in the domestic professional basketball league. Afterwards, he gained administrative experience as the secretary general of the University Basketball Federation, and after serving as a coach for Chanson Cosmetics in the Japanese women’s basketball league and as a coach for KB, he has been a commentator since 2021.
Upcoming Season
The WKBL was inaugurated by new Commissioner Shin Sang-hoon in July of this year. The new Secretary General was also selected and preparations for the new season began. The 2024-25 season of women’s professional basketball will open on the 27th of next month.
