55th Home Economics Specialized High School Practical Skills Competition Held
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education, led by Superintendent Jong-sik Lim, hosted the ’55th Home Economics Specialized High School Practical Skills Competition’ at Korea International Culinary High School and Korea Future Industry High School in Yeongju-si on the 11th.
This competition aims to strengthen the practical skills of students at specialized high schools and establish a system for employment and career guidance through basic vocational education and practical skills development.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the competition, with 154 students from 10 specialized high schools in the province participating. The students showcased their skills in 8 categories: Korean cooking, Western cooking, confectionery and bakery, nail care, hair care, skin care, makeup, and entrepreneurship.
Notably, in the culinary field, students with outstanding skills, including winners of the National Skills Competition and students who obtained national technical qualifications, presented exceptional works that surpassed last year’s standards.

In the beauty field, students demonstrated improved practical skills through specialized high school apprenticeship training. Their creative and industry-trend-inspired hair and makeup designs impressed the judges and drew great admiration.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik emphasized, “The practical skills competition is the only competition in the country where students specializing in home economics can discover their potential and grow.” He added, “We will foster global functional talents through an advanced, job-centered curriculum, enabling the cooking and beauty industries to become the center of the K-Pop wave.”
