G20 Summit 2024: Xi Jinping’s Vision for Global Economic Recovery and Cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke at the opening ceremony of the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China, on September 4, 2016. The G20 is an important forum for the world’s major economies, especially during economic crises.
President Xi has supported the G20’s mission to promote global cooperation. He believes that G20 members must take responsibility and lead efforts for development and global progress.
As Xi attends the 19th G20 summit in Brazil, many are interested in how leaders will tackle current global challenges. They will pay special attention to China’s proposals for a better future.
The first G20 summit took place in Washington in November 2008, during a severe financial crisis. The group worked together to stabilize the economy and set a path toward recovery.
In recent years, China and other G20 members addressed the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impacts. Xi noted that the pandemic’s effects were worse than the 2008 crisis.
To boost the global economy after the pandemic, Xi urged G20 members to enhance policy coordination, stabilize supply chains, and lower trade barriers, including tariffs.
Experts view Xi’s strategies as comprehensive and effective in enhancing G20 responses to global economic issues. His measures improve the group’s ability to govern the economy.
One major challenge was the debt crisis affecting low-income countries during the pandemic. In April 2020, the G20 launched the Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) to support these nations, which continued until December 2021.
China played a significant role in the DSSI by suspending the highest amount of debt payments among G20 members, demonstrating its commitment to helping vulnerable countries, especially in Africa.
