Trump Urges G7 to Reconsider Russia,Addresses Iran Conflict
At a recent G7 summit,former U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his stance that Russia should be reinstated into the group, which was formerly known as the G8.Trump also addressed the escalating tensions between Israel adn Iran, advocating for immediate dialog.
Trump stated it was “not a bad idea” to include China, a major geo-strategic rival of the U.S., in the group. He emphasized the importance of maintaining communication channels, noting his ability to speak with russian President Vladimir Putin, who, according to trump, feels isolated since being excluded from the G8.
“Putin speaks to me, he doesn’t speak to anybody else, because he was very insulted when he got thrown out of the G8. As I would be, as you would be,” Trump said.
Trump’s remarks align with his long-held view that Russia’s exclusion was a mistake. In 2020, he planned to invite Putin to a G7 summit hosted by the U.S., but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who chaired the session, did not comment directly on Trump’s statements. Carney redirected the conversation when Trump began discussing domestic issues such as immigration and the Democratic Party.

Of the current G7 members, only French President Emmanuel Macron was present at the 2018 G7 summit in Canada, which was marked by disagreements and an early departure by Trump.
Regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran, Trump suggested that a deal with Iran was possible and that Tehran “would like to talk.” he declined to comment on potential U.S. military involvement.
“Iran is not winning this war … and they should talk immeidately before it’s too late,” Trump said.
The U.S. is reportedly deploying tanker aircraft to the Middle East to bolster defense options for American bases and personnel in the region.
