Galaxy S26 & Buds4: Samsung Unpacked 2026 Highlights & AI Innovations

February 26, 2026 Lisa Park - Tech Editor Tech

Samsung unveiled its next generation of mobile technology at Galaxy Unpacked 2026, held at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on February 25, 2026. The event showcased the Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy Buds4 series, with a central theme of embedding Galaxy AI more deeply into everyday experiences. The company is positioning AI not as a novelty, but as an increasingly integral part of the mobile experience – an “infrastructure” that should be accessible to everyone.

Galaxy S26 Series: Advancing Agentic AI

The Galaxy S26 series represents Samsung’s latest push in mobile AI innovation, focusing on what the company terms “agentic AI.” This approach aims to move beyond simple task execution to a more intelligent and seamless user experience. According to TM Roh, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, the goal is to close the gap between the promise of AI and its practical application for users.

A key feature of the S26 series is ‘Now Nudge,’ a new capability that understands conversational context and proactively offers relevant suggestions, allowing users to remain focused without switching between applications. This builds upon existing Galaxy AI features like Call Screening, which summarizes incoming calls, identifying the caller and the reason for their call to help users quickly decide whether to answer.

Samsung is also integrating AI more deeply into its core software. The latest version of Bixby now incorporates real-time web search capabilities, displaying results directly within the conversational interface. This aims to streamline information access and reduce the need to navigate away from ongoing tasks.

Privacy and Security at the Core

Underpinning these AI advancements is a renewed focus on data privacy, and security. The Galaxy S26 series leverages Samsung’s Personal Data Engine (PDE) to learn user preferences on-device, while Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) isolates data within individual applications. Further bolstering security, Knox Vault provides a dedicated hardware environment for safeguarding sensitive information like passwords and biometric data.

Collaboration with Google and Gemini

Samsung continues its collaboration with Google, expanding the functionality of Circle to Search, allowing users to identify multiple objects within a single image. More significantly, the companies previewed the next evolution of Android, powered by Google’s Gemini 3, which will be initially available on the Galaxy S26 series as a Google Labs feature, with expanded capabilities rolling out over time.

Performance and Hardware Enhancements

To support the demands of advanced AI processing, Samsung has co-developed a custom application processor (AP) for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This new processor features a 39% more powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and a 19% faster Central Processing Unit (CPU). The Galaxy S26 Ultra, also powered by Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5, offers improved graphics and gaming performance. A redesigned thermal architecture, featuring an expanded vapor chamber, enhances heat management for sustained performance, while optimized power efficiency extends battery life.

Introducing Privacy Display

The Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces a new feature called Privacy Display, an integrated screen layer designed to limit side viewing while maintaining screen clarity and brightness. Users can activate or deactivate the feature and customize it for specific applications, with a ‘Maximum Privacy Protection’ mode offering enhanced shielding for sensitive information.

AI-Powered Camera Capabilities

The Galaxy S26 series features an AI-enhanced Image Signal Processor (ISP) in its front-facing camera, promising greater detail and color accuracy. Nightography Video has been improved to reduce noise and preserve sharpness in low-light conditions. For content creators, the Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces professional-grade camera tools, including 8K recording with the APV codec. AI-powered Document Scan intelligently flattens, cleans, and converts documents into shareable files, while AI-driven editing tools streamline image enhancement.

Galaxy Buds4 Series: Intelligent Audio

Alongside the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds4 series, featuring a redesigned Blade shape and improved audio performance. The Galaxy Buds4 Pro incorporates a larger woofer in its two-way speaker system and a refined fit for richer bass and clearer highs. Call quality has been enhanced through AI-powered noise reduction, minimizing background noise and improving voice clarity. The Buds4 series also offers hands-free access to Bixby, Gemini, and Perplexity.

Sustainability Initiatives

Samsung reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability with its Galaxy for the Planet initiative, announcing the completion of its 2025 environmental goals and introducing new targets for 2030. These new goals focus on resource circularity, water management, and biodiversity conservation. The Galaxy S26 series will incorporate at least one recycled material in each device, and Samsung plans to replenish 110% of the water consumed at its mobile device manufacturing facilities.

The company is also expanding the use of Ocean Mode, originally developed to optimize underwater photography for coral reef restoration, to Expert RAW, allowing Galaxy users to experience advanced underwater photography.

The launch of the Galaxy S26 series and Galaxy Buds4 series marks Samsung’s continued evolution towards a future where AI is seamlessly integrated into the mobile experience, prioritizing personalization, performance, and security.
