Galaxy Z Fold 7: Best & Worst Feature Analysis

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the first foldable in samsung’s lineup with a cover screen⁢ that feels somewhat normal. Past models always felt to ⁤tall, too⁢ narrow, and too ⁣awkward for anything beyond ​fast tasks. This time, the cover screen, 6.5⁢ inches in size, finally strikes a comfortable balance between usable screen‍ real estate and overall compactness.

And yet, ‍that’s exactly where ​my problem with​ it begins.⁣ The outer display on the Fold 7 is big enough that I no longer feel the need to unfold​ the phone. I still open it from time to time, but it’s now a ‍deliberate choice rather than a natural habit. With previous models, the cover ‍screen’s awkward proportions practically pushed you to unfold the device whenever you⁣ wanted to get ​serious work done.

I’ve‍ long argued that ⁢smaller cover screens on foldables make⁢ sense.Not because I ⁣wanted to excuse Samsung’s ‌design choices in earlier Folds, but because they ensured⁢ you got your money’s worth out ‍of the ⁢foldable⁤ form factor. When the outer ⁣screen ⁣felt restrictive,you instinctively unfolded the device and took full⁤ advantage of what made ​it ⁣special in the first place.

The Fold 7‌ has proven me right. I love this⁤ phone, especially⁢ its remarkably slim design. But in‍ terms of delivering​ on the promise ⁤of a ​foldable, it falls short. The⁢ very⁣ thing that⁣ makes it feel⁤ like a “normal” phone⁢ also⁣ makes it​ harder ​to justify the⁣ point⁣ of‌ owning one. And ⁣while I’m ⁢genuinely happy for everyone​ who wanted Samsung to finally make the cover screen bigger, I can’t​ say I’m⁤ a ⁣fan of the change.
