Galicia Opera Season Opens with Jenůfa Premiere

Emiliano Suárez takes on the role of stage director for the upcoming Galician premiere of Leoš Janáček’s opera Jenůfa, scheduled for September 17 and September 19, 2026, at the Palacio de la Ópera in A Coruña, according to local reporting from La Opinión A Coruña.

The production marks the opening of the new lyric season organized by La Asociación de Amigos de la Ópera. Bringing the landmark 20th-century Czech masterpiece to Galicia represents a significant milestone for the regional classical music calendar, introducing local audiences to Janáček’s emotionally intense psychological drama.

Director Emiliano Suárez emphasized the artistic weight of staging the opera in A Coruña, noting the importance of connecting the raw narrative of the score with contemporary theatrical staging. The opera, which premiered originally in Brno in 1904, explores themes of social pressure, rural isolation, and redemption.
