Oasis’ Liam and Noel Gallagher Discuss Father’s Impact, Upcoming Tour
Updated June 22, 2025
Liam and Noel Gallagher, the frontmen of the iconic band Oasis, have publicly addressed their strained relationship with their estranged father, Thomas Gallagher. The brothers, who are planning an Oasis tour, grew up in Burnage, England, and moved away from their father with their mother, Peggy, and older brother, Paul, in the 1980s. Both Liam and Noel have repeatedly stated that their father was physically abusive during their childhood.
In the 2016 documentary “Supersonic,” Liam Gallagher recounted an incident in Dublin in the 1990s. The brothers found their father in a hotel bar with a journalist.
“Someone turned around and said, ‘yoru old fella is over there with a journalist trying to get something going,'” Liam said. “I was about to kill him.”
Liam added that Noel calmed him down. He found the situation pathetic, especially with the press present.
The Gallagher brothers are set to reunite for an Oasis tour in July 2025. The tour will begin in Cardiff before heading to Manchester and London’s Wembley Stadium. Their brother, Paul, recalled that security around rock bands in Ireland was lax at the time of the Dublin incident.
Liam also described an incident where his father called him requesting tickets to an oasis show.
“Yeah, you’re not gonna get tickets,” Liam said he told his father. “If I catch you walking round the lobby of this hotel you’re gonna get your legs f***ing broke, right? See you later.”
Peggy Gallagher has also spoken about the alleged abuse, particularly toward Noel.”He used to kill Noel. Noel was the one who got it most,” she said. She recalled Noel threatening to harm his father if he didn’t leave.
Noel Gallagher discussed the lasting impact of the abuse in 2015 on BBC Radio 4’s “Desert Island Discs.”
“Yeah, my dad used to beat the living daylights out of me,” Noel said. “I’ve never felt compelled to either talk about it or write about it. You can’t let that kind of thing affect you in any way because you are then carrying that weight all the way through life.”
Noel also revealed that he developed a stammer as an inevitable result of the physical abuse and worked to ensure he did not pass the trauma on to his own children. Peggy Gallagher divorced Thomas in 1986. Paul said that his father never pursued them after the divorce.
In 2019, Noel told the Irish Independent that he would not reconcile with his father, stating that “the bad stuff fully outweighs the good stuff.”
