Margret Sweeney, the Gallagher brothers’ grandmother, passed away in September 2000, just shy of her 80th birthday. the cottage, set on six acres of land, features a natural spring and the remnants of a former corn mill, with the Sonnagh River running through the property.It represents a tangible link to the family’s past and the landscape that shaped their upbringing.
A Nod to Mayo During a Triumphant Return
Liam Gallagher publicly acknowledged his connection to Charlestown during Oasis’s recent sold-out concerts at Croke Park in Dublin. Addressing an 80,000-strong crowd, he playfully inquired, “Anyone here from Mayo, charlestown?” When met with a resounding cheer, he quipped, “There’s only about five people there, you can’t all be f*g from there.”

He then dedicated the song Roll With It
to the town, and later dedicated Stand By Me
to his mother, Peggy, further demonstrating the importance of his family and heritage. Despite hopes from locals for a visit to Charlestown following the concerts, there have been no confirmed sightings of the brothers in the area.
