Tackling Youth Gambling Problems through Public-Private Collaboration
Toss and the National Police Agency have joined forces to launch a campaign to combat youth gambling problems. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the seriousness of youth gambling and provide support for those struggling with addiction.
Through social media content and videos, the campaign highlights the risks of youth gambling and the importance of adult intervention. A 16-year-old virtual character, ‘Park Do-young’, was created to demonstrate how easily youth can become addicted to gambling. The character’s Instagram account shares photos of ordinary daily life, making it difficult to detect signs of addiction.
A promotional video conveys the message that youth gambling is not an ordinary problem and can affect anyone, regardless of their daily life, grades, or attitudes. The video is available on the official Toss YouTube channel.
A dedicated homepage has been set up to provide information on the campaign and offer support for youth struggling with gambling problems. The homepage includes a menu for sharing opinions and leaving messages of support, as well as links to the National Police Agency’s cyber crime reporting system and the Korea Gambling Problem Prevention and Treatment Institute’s youth gambling problem self-assessment page.
The campaign also features a ‘picket relay’ activity, where participants will spread the message of eradicating youth gambling. The first runner, Police Commissioner General George Ho, has nominated Toss CEO Lee Seung-geon to continue the relay.
Toss officials have expressed their commitment to preventing youth gambling damage through their services. The ‘Family Security Guardian’ function in the Toss app notifies users of suspicious transactions, including gambling and voice phishing. A separate warning notification is also displayed if a transfer is attempted to an account suspected of being used for illegal gambling.
The official Toss Bank website supports a function to report Toss Bank accounts suspected of being used on illegal gambling sites. By working together, Toss and the National Police Agency aim to build a social safety net and prevent youth gambling problems.
