SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Hub City Spartanburgers were swept in a doubleheader against the Winston-Salem Dash on Monday, losing both games by scores of 6-0 and 13-1.
The losses drop the Spartanburgers’ record to 7-9 on the season, while the Dash improve to 12-5.
In the first game, Winston-Salem struck early and often, plating four runs in the opening innings to knock starting pitcher D.J. McCarty out of the game after just two innings of work. McCarty took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
The Dash continued their offensive onslaught in the second game, scoring 13 runs on 15 hits to secure the sweep. The Spartanburgers managed only a single run in the contest, avoiding the shutout in the late innings.
Winston-Salem’s pitching staff held the Spartanburgers to just six hits across the two games, combining for a dominant performance that stifled Hub City’s offense throughout the doubleheader.
