Ireland’s version of the reality television show The Traitors, which features contestants attempting to identify hidden “traitors” among them, has garnered significant attention, including the participation of a member of the Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police service. The show brings together over 20 contestants from diverse backgrounds for a game of deception.

Garda Eamon O’Keeffe quickly became a prominent contestant, and was selected as one of the initial “traitors,” tasked with misleading fellow participants about his allegiances and eliminating contestants through staged “murders.”

Commissioner Kelly Addresses O’Keeffe’s Participation

At the National Ploughing Championships on September 16, 2024, Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly was questioned about his awareness of Garda O’keeffe’s involvement in the program. The Independent reported that Commissioner Kelly confirmed he and his wife have been watching the show.

Myself and my wife have actually watched the Traitors quite a lot and I’ve quite enjoyed it

Commissioner Kelly emphasized that O’Keeffe’s participation is a personal matter and not a concern for the Garda Síochána.He stated, “It’s entertainment – I’m sure you’re asking from a work point of view where it is not on my radar whatsoever – I have lots of more significant things to be worrying about than The Traitors.” He also praised the show as “good entertainment,” though he admitted to not having seen every episode due to his demanding schedule.
