Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of late singer Zubeen Garg, joined musicians and hundreds of fans at Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur on Monday to stage a peaceful protest demanding speedy justice in connection with the singer’s death.
Protest in Sonapur Over Bail Decisions
Protesters gathered at Zubeen Kshetra to call for a fair and speedy trial regarding the death of the Assamese icon, who died in Singapore on September 19, 2025, at the age of 52. Garima had previously appealed for a peaceful and united demonstration, urging supporters to keep their focus on accountability. The latest demonstrations follow the Gauhati High Court’s decision to grant bail to Amritprabha Mahanta, prompting fresh anxiety among the late singer’s family and followers.
Speaking to reporters during the demonstration, Garima questioned the legal basis for the release and warned about potential repercussions for the ongoing case. We are demanding justice, and everyone wants justice,
Garima said, according to NDTV. Our question is, on what basis was she granted bail? If other accused persons also come out of jail, it could have a negative impact on the case. There are concerns about the possibility of evidence being tampered with.
Security Concerns and Legal Faith
Addressing the broader implications of releasing individuals linked to the case, Garima raised questions about public safety and community security. Zubeen Garg had lakhs and crores of followers, and the whole of Assam stands with him,
she said, as reported by NDTV. If people accused of conspiring in such a serious case are released and allowed to roam freely, what will be the security of our lives?
Garima also questioned how bail could be granted after the Special Investigation Team reportedly filed a strong charge sheet in the matter. Despite her concerns over the court’s recent bail orders, she emphasized that the family and supporters maintain faith in the judicial system. We have faith in the honourable courts, and we are still hoping for the best,
she stated. We want the justice process to move in the right direction. Otherwise, people across Assam will continue to raise questions, come out in protest and stand against the system.
Zubeen Divas Observations Across Assam
The protests run concurrently with the three-day Zubeen Divas commemorations marking the first death anniversary of the singer-composer, actor, and filmmaker. According to Times of India reporting, thousands of admirers gathered at Zubeen Kshetra for events starting September 17, 2026, featuring interfaith prayers, Naam-Prasanga, musical tributes titled Geete-Mate Zubeen Bandana, and traditional cultural programs.

We have to get justice,
Garima told NDTV, in remarks covered by Times of India. The process is on.
This process is happening in court.
So we all want justice for Zubeen Garg.
We want to know what really happened on the 19th of September in 2025 in Singapore.
We are still waiting for that answer, and we have to get that justice.
