Garmin Introduces the Tactix 8: A Next-Generation Tactical Smartwatch with Rucking, Diving, & Communication Capabilities
Garmin has introduced the Tactix 8, a rugged smartwatch designed for use on land, in the air, and now at sea. This latest model includes new features for military personnel, outdoor enthusiasts, and divers.
Available in 47mm and 51mm sizes, the Tactix 8 meets military standards (MIL-STD-810) for heat, shock, and water resistance. It has a 40-meter dive rating with leakproof buttons for underwater use. Battery life has been improved, with the AMOLED display on the 47mm model lasting up to 16 days in smartwatch mode, while the solar-powered 51mm version lasts up to 48 days.
New Features
The Tactix 8 includes dedicated rucking and diving activity profiles. The rucking feature allows users to input pack weight for more accurate exertion tracking, which can also be applied to hiking and trail running.

For diving, the watch supports scuba and apnea activities, providing relevant data and navigation tools. The 40-meter dive rating ensures reliability underwater.
A built-in speaker and microphone enable calls directly from the watch when paired with a smartphone. Voice commands offer hands-free control of various functions.
Mapping and Navigation
The Tactix 8 comes with preloaded TopoActive maps and offers an optional Outdoor Maps+ subscription for more detailed mapping. SatIQ and multi-band GPS improve positioning accuracy. A new map interface allows users to customize map layers, and round-trip routing helps with navigation.
Tactical Features
Stealth Mode disables wireless communication while continuing to track distance and biometric data, useful for operations in sensitive areas. Night Vision Goggle (NVG) mode dims the display for compatibility with night vision devices. A built-in multi-LED flashlight offers both white and green light options.
Training and Health
The smartwatch includes training tools such as strength training plans, real-time stamina tracking, and various sports apps. Health monitoring features include Pulse Ox, Body Battery, sleep tracking, and ECG app compatibility.
Ballistics and Aviation
The Tactix 8 comes with the Applied Ballistics Ultralight solver, while the Tactix 8 Elite includes the AB Elite solver. Aviation features include Direct-to-navigation, aviation weather data access, and Jumpmaster functionality for airborne operations.
Pricing and Availability
Garmin’s Tactix 8 smartwatch will be available for order on Garmin.com starting February 21. The 47mm AMOLED version is priced at $1,299.99, while the 51mm AMOLED and 51mm solar models are each $1,399.
