Garrett Crochet Talks With Red Sox Players After Trade to Boston
red Sox Reunion: Crochet Joins Familiar Faces in Boston
Garrett Crochet is the latest pitcher to swap his white Sox for the red ones, joining a Boston Red Sox team already boasting former Chicago White Sox teammates Lucas Giolito and Liam Hendriks.
Crochet, who excelled as a starter in his lone full season, is expected to be a key piece of the Red Sox rotation. The 24-year-old lefty earned All-Star honors in 2024, striking out 209 batters in 146 innings with a 3.58 ERA.
The familiarity of Giolito and Hendriks, along with other welcoming teammates, should ease crochet’s transition to Boston.
“I’ve texted with them a little bit and a little bit of the rest of the team as well,” Crochet said in a Zoom call. “Had a couple guys reach out, so that was really cool to immediatly feel welcomed and wanted in the organization.”
Crochet, who also knows Rob Refsnyder from their time in Chicago, is looking forward to sharing the clubhouse with his former teammates.
“I really haven’t talked much beyond spring training housing and were guys like to live out in Boston,” Crochet added. “That’s about as far as the conversations have gone. But I really look forward to sharing the clubhouse with those guys.”
While Giolito and Hendriks can help Crochet adjust to his new surroundings, all three will be experiencing somthing new in 2025. Giolito missed the entire 2024 season recovering from elbow surgery, while Hendriks never fully returned from Tommy John surgery.
The trio will look to make a meaningful impact for the Red Sox, hoping to lead the team back to contention.
