Gary Lineker’s Emotional Match of the Day Memory Revealed
Gary Lineker, the host of Match of the Day, is leaving the show at the end of the season. He shared his favorite memory from his time on the program during an episode of The Rest is Football podcast. Lineker recalled feeling emotional when Leicester City won the Premier League. He described a moment with Claudio Ranieri and Andrea Bocelli, saying it brought tears to his eyes.
“I just sat in the office, it was a bit embarrassing, just tears down my cheeks. That was definitely my favourite moment,” he said.
Lineker also mentioned a humorous moment when he hosted an episode in his underwear after promising to do so if Leicester won the league.
Lineker’s connection to Leicester City runs deep. He was born there and began his career with the club. He scored 103 goals in 216 appearances over seven years. He later played for Everton, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, and Nagoya Grampus Eight in Japan. His honors include winning the FA Cup with Spurs and the European Cup Winners’ Cup with Barcelona.
