Gas Consumption in Czech Republic Rose Last Year
Czech Natural Gas Consumption Rises Despite Mild Winter
Natural gas consumption in the Czech Republic increased in 2024, driven by a significant temperature difference compared to the previous two heating seasons. However, usage remains below pre-Ukraine war levels.
The 2024 heating season was unusually mild, averaging around 4.4 degrees Celsius (39.5 degrees Fahrenheit). The colder half of 2023 averaged 2.8 degrees Celsius (36.2 degrees fahrenheit), still slightly above the 2.5 degree Celsius (37.7 degrees Fahrenheit) norm.
“The slight year-on-year decrease in overall consumption, adjusted for temperature, confirms the existing trend of stagnation in natural gas usage,” said Michal Macenauer, Head of Strategy at EGU.
Despite the increase, consumption remains lower than before the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. Macenauer noted a continued trend of conservation among both households and businesses.
