Two suspects wanted in connection with a fatal quadruple shooting in Gaston County, North Carolina, died Friday following a high-speed vehicle pursuit that crossed multiple counties in southern Ohio, according to local and state authorities. Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, were pronounced dead inside their vehicle after it crashed near Athens, Ohio, on September 11, 2026, according to reports from WBTV and The NC Beat. Both suspects lived at the North Carolina residence where the Thursday morning shooting took place and faced active warrants for two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Gaston County Shooting Investigation

The multi-state manhunt originated from an incident on September 10, 2026, at 2661 Forbes Road in Gaston County, North Carolina. According to the Gaston County Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:43 a.m. and discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. Two victims, identified as 50-year-old Victoria “Heather” Moore and 38-year-old Megan “Josiah” Moore, died from their injuries at the scene, as reported by The NC Beat. Two other victims sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Police stated that the surviving patients remained in critical but stable condition. Investigators determined that Moore and Armstrong fled North Carolina immediately after the gunfire. Detectives secured murder warrants late Thursday afternoon and coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force to track the suspects overnight.

Ohio Pursuit and Crash

Law enforcement officers tracked the suspects to Athens, Ohio, by Friday morning. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers spotted the vehicle outside Athens at approximately 8 a.m. The suspects refused to pull over, initiating a multi-county pursuit across southern Ohio. The chase concluded when the fleeing vehicle swerved to avoid tire spike strips deployed by authorities and subsequently crashed, officials said. Officers at the scene reported hearing two gunshots following the crash. Authorities did not immediately approach the wreckage, instead deploying a drone overhead to inspect the vehicle. The aerial device confirmed that both occupants were dead inside. The Ohio State Highway Patrol took over the investigation into the collision and the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Moore and Armstrong. No other injuries were reported during the pursuit.
