Coco Gauff Advances to French Open Final

Coco gauff’s quest for a French Open title continues as she defeated France’s Loïs Boisson 6-1, 6-2, on Thursday.Gauff, the No. 2 seed, will now face top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in a highly anticipated championship match on Saturday. The American tennis star displayed composure despite the partisan crowd at Roland Garros.
Sabalenka reached the final by ending Iga Swiatek‘s 26-match winning streak at the French Open. Her 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0, victory denied Swiatek a fourth consecutive title in Paris. This sets up onyl the second No. 1 versus No. 2 women’s final at the French Open in the last 30 years.
The upcoming final is a rematch of the 2023 US Open final,where Gauff secured her first major title at age 19 by defeating Sabalenka. Gauff was also the runner-up at the 2022 French Open, losing to Swiatek.
Boisson, ranked No. 361 and a wild card entry, had previously defeated Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva. Despite the loss, the 22-year-old is set to receive 690,000 euros ($789,567) in prize money.
“Today it was quite simply too tough for me,” Boisson said. “I couldn’t manage to get my game going, but apart from today’s match, which wasn’t all positive, the tournament as a whole was very positive.”
Gauff acknowledged the challenge of playing a French player in paris. “This is my first time playing a French player hear. I was mentally prepared that it was to be 99% for her, so I was trying to block it out,” Gauff said.
Gauff’s speed and strong forehand proved too much for Boisson. gauff had only 15 unforced errors, compared to boisson’s 33. Gauff dominated the longer rallies, winning 34 of 51 points that lasted five strokes or more. She quickly established a 4-0 lead and maintained control throughout the match.
“It’s always the plan to start strong,” Gauff said. “I knew it was important today. She’s an incredible player… I’m sure we’ll have more battles in the future.”
Boisson, the first Frenchwoman to reach the semifinals at Roland Garros since Marion Bartoli in 2011, exited the tournament after sending a forehand long.
