Gauthier and Cataford Named to Canada’s World Junior Roster
Gauthier duo makes history as Canada Names World Juniors Roster
Ottawa, ON – Hockey Canada has unveiled its 25-man roster for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship, and a historic father-son duo from Quebec will be representing the nation. Ethan Gauthier and Mathieu Cataford, both hailing from Quebec, will be making their World Juniors debuts, marking the first time a father-son pair from the province has achieved this feat. Ethan’s father, former NHL defenseman Denis Gauthier, also donned the Team Canada jersey at the World Juniors in 1996.
The tournament, set to take place in Ottawa from December 26th to January 5th, will see Canada face off against some of the world’s best young hockey talent.
The roster, selected following a competitive camp in Ottawa, features a blend of experiance and promising young stars.
“We’re excited about the group we’ve assembled,” said head coach Dave Cameron. “This is a talented and determined team, and we’re confident they’ll represent Canada with pride.”
Among the notable selections is 16-year-old phenom Gavin McKenna, who is eligible for the 2026 NHL draft. Three players eligible for the 2025 draft – forward Porter Martone and goaltender Jack Ivankovic of the Brampton Steelheads, and defenseman Matthew Schaefer of the Erie Otters – also made the cut.
Interestingly,Canada will be relying on three 17-year-old goaltenders, marking the first time since 1999 that the team has opted for such a young trio in net. Some notable omissions from the final roster include forwards Beckett Sennecke, Matthew Wood, and defenseman Zayne Parekh. Wood and goaltender Scott Ratzlaff, both members of last year’s team in Sweden, were unable to secure spots this year.Andrew Cristall and Denver Barkey, who were also cut last year, will not be making the trip to Ottawa.

It sounds like you’re interested in writing a story about a character named Pearl, and you want her to be a vampire hunter.
Here are some ideas to help you brainstorm:
Pearl’s Backstory & Motivation:
Customary hunter lineage: Was she born into a family of vampire hunters? Is she carrying on a tradition, or trying to break free from it? Does she have a scar on her neck from a vampire attack as a child, fueling her vow of revenge?
Personal tragedy: Did a loved one fall prey to a vampire? Did she witness a horrific vampire attack? How has this shaped her personality and worldview?
Unexpected calling: Did she stumble upon the world of vampires accidentally? Did she have unique skills or experiences that made her a natural fit for the role?
Pearl’s Personality & Skills:
Stoic and hardened: Years of hunting could make her emotionally guarded, focused solely on the task at hand.
Cunning and resourceful: A good hunter needs to be clever and adaptable, able to anticipate a vampire’s moves and outsmart them.
physically strong and agile: Hunting vampires is dangerous work. Give Pearl some physical prowess to survive confrontations.
Tech-savvy or traditionalist: Does she rely on ancient lore and weapons, or does she embrace modern technology to aid her hunt?
Haunted past: Does she struggle with guilt, fear, or nightmares? How does she cope with the emotional toll of her job?
The World Pearl Inhabits:
Hidden vampire society: Are vampires integrated into society, or do they live in secret? How do humans perceive them?
Other hunters and alliances: Is pearl a lone wolf, or does she work with a team of other hunters?
vampire subtypes: Does your world have different types of vampires with unique abilities and weaknesses?
Magic and mythology: Does your world allow for supernatural elements? Are there ancient rituals or artifacts that play a role?
possible Story Arcs:
A seasoned hunter facing a new and terrifying threat: A powerful vampire emerges, forcing Pearl to confront her limits.
Tracking down a specific vampire: Pearl seeks revenge for a personal loss, leading her on a dangerous journey.
Uncovering a conspiracy: Pearl stumbles upon a hidden plot involving humans and vampires, forcing her to choose sides.
forbidden love: Pearl falls for a vampire, challenging her beliefs and putting her life in danger.
Remember:
Give Pearl a unique voice and perspective. what makes her stand out from other vampire hunter characters?
Make the world believable and engaging. Consider the rules and limitations of your world, and how vampires and humans interact.
* Create suspense and tension: Build up to exciting confrontations and unexpected twists.
Let your inventiveness run wild and have fun! You have the foundation for a compelling story.
