Doctor’s Condition Worsens After months in Detention
Nearly four months after his arrest, concerns are mounting regarding dr. Abu Safiya’s condition. Budour Hassan, a researcher with Amnesty International, expressed alarm, stating that Dr.Abu Safiya was reportedly interrogated about providing care to prisoners of war and his knowledge of their whereabouts.
Hospital Director Detained After Refusing to Abandon Post
Dr. Abu Safiya,50,served as the director of Kamel Adwan hospital in Beit Lahia,northern Gaza. He was taken into custody by forces after a siege and subsequent destruction of the hospital, according to reports.
Despite ongoing bombings and the presence of forces surrounding the medical facility, Dr. Abu Safiya remained at his post.
His pleas to save the hospital, widely circulated on social media, drew international attention.His lawyer reports that Dr. Abu Safiya is currently being held in a military prison.
