Updated June 14, 2025
Ramallah—Gaza’s health system is struggling to cope with a surge in casualties, local health authorities reported Saturday. In the past 48 hours, hospitals received 90 dead and 605 wounded due to continued Israeli shelling. The ongoing conflict, which began Oct. 7, 2023, has now claimed 55,297 lives and injured 128,426, according to officials.
The health authorities also noted that 29 people died and 380 where injured in the past 48 hours while seeking aid at hospitals. Since late May, 274 have died and 2,532 have been injured in areas designated for aid distribution, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation. The ongoing conflict and the struggle for resources have created a perfect storm of challenges for the region.
Adding to the crisis, Gaza remains under an Internet blackout for the fifth consecutive day. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the disruption, asserting it aims to isolate Gaza and prevent media coverage of what it described as a ”genocide war.” The syndicate called on international organizations to take action against what it termed “punitive measures” by Israel.
International and media freedom organizations have joined the call, urging global media to highlight the situation and hold Israel accountable for its actions. The internet blackout is significantly impacting the ability to deliver aid and report on the ongoing health crisis.
