US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the need for a swift resolution to the conflict in Gaza, stating that the US does not want Israel to engage in a prolonged fight in Lebanon. This statement was made on October 10 in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where Blinken was meeting with regional leaders to discuss the crisis.
As part of the US efforts to support the affected regions, Blinken announced an additional $1 million in aid to Gaza, the West Bank, and the Palestinians. This funding will be allocated towards humanitarian projects, bringing the total amount of American aid to $3.5 billion since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began.
Meanwhile, Qatar and the US have confirmed that American and Israeli negotiators will convene in Doha to prepare for the resumption of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. This development marks a crucial step towards achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
In a related move, the director of the Mossad intelligence agency, David Barnea, is scheduled to travel to Doha on Sunday to meet with the director of the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, and Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Egyptian authorities have also sent representatives to meet with Hamas leaders in Cairo, as part of a broader effort to revive ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
