Updated June 02, 2025
Israeli forces opened fire on palestinians seeking humanitarian aid at a distribution point in Gaza on
Monday, resulting in at least three deaths and more than 30 injuries. The incident occurred at the same
Israeli-backed aid site in southern Gaza where a similar shooting took place a day earlier. The
United Nations has demanded an independent investigation into the repeated shootings of aid seekers.
Witnesses reported that Israeli snipers and drones monitor the aid sites, which are run by the Gaza
Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Hisham Mhanna, a spokesperson for the International Commitee of the Red Cross,
stated that their field hospital received approximately 50 wounded individuals, including two dead on arrival.
Moataz al-Feirani, 21, said he was shot in the leg while approaching the site with thousands of others.
UN Secretary-General Antonio guterres condemned the violence, stating, “It is unacceptable that Palestinians are
risking their lives for food.” He called for an immediate and independent investigation to hold those responsible
accountable.
The Israeli military claims its soldiers fired “warning shots” at individuals who “posed a threat,” denying
targeting civilians. The GHF has also denied the shootings, though its neutrality has been questioned as its
founding executive director resigned over concerns about impartiality.
“It is indeed unacceptable that Palestinians are risking their lives for food,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio
Guterres.

Elsewhere in Gaza, Israeli air attacks continue. In Jabalia, an attack on a home killed 14 people, including
seven children, according to the Palestinian civil Defense agency. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported at least
51 Palestinians killed and 503 injured in the latest 24-hour period.

Despite international condemnation, Israel’s military has ordered further displacement of civilians from Khan
Younis, signaling continued operations in the area. Approximately 80% of Gaza is now under Israeli military
