Gaza on the Brink: The Fading Light of Western Values
Turkish President Erdoğan Calls for “Alliance of Humanity” to Stop Israel
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 24, condemning the ongoing conflict in Gaza and calling for international action to stop Israel’s military campaign.
Erdoğan criticized Western countries for their support of Israel, stating that the values of the UN system and the Western world are “dying in Gaza.” He emphasized that the truth, human rights, and the hopes for a fairer world are being lost in the conflict.
“Along with children in Gaza, the UN system is also dying, the truth is dying, the values the West claims to protect are dying, humanity’s hopes to live in a fairer world dying one by one,” Erdoğan said.
Turkey, a NATO member, has strongly condemned Israel’s military campaign in the Palestinian territories, which has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian deaths. In response, Turkey has suspended all trade with Israel and applied to join a genocide case against Israel at the World Court.
Erdoğan criticized countries that claim to be working towards a ceasefire while secretly supplying arms and ammunition to Israel. “Those who are supposed to be working for a ceasefire continue to send arms and ammunition to Israel behind the scenes, so that it can continue its massacres. This is an anomaly and insincere,” he said.
Erdoğan also expressed Turkey’s solidarity with the Lebanese people, who have recently been affected by Israel’s bombing and killing of citizens in another neighboring country.
