According to the Gaza Civil Defense, at least 40 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a tent camp in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. The attack occurred in an area designated as a humanitarian zone, raising concerns about the safety of civilians in the region.
Israeli Army’s Statement on the Attack
The Israeli army has stated that the target of the attack was a Hamas command center. In a statement, the army said that “senior Hamas terrorists operating in a command and control center within the humanitarian zone in Khan Yunis were attacked.” The army also claimed that the terrorists ”carried out attacks against the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the State of Israel.”
Damage and Casualties Reported
Residents and medics have reported that the tent camp in the Al-Mawasi area, which is designated as a humanitarian zone, was hit by at least four rockets. The camp is home to many displaced Palestinians, and the attack has resulted in significant damage and casualties. Civil defense reports indicate that at least 20 tents have caught fire, and the rockets have caused craters up to nine meters deep.
