Young Gazelles Aim for State Glory in 2024-25 Gymnastics Season

Yankton, SD - After a strong seventh-place finish at the state championships last year, the Yankton Gazelles gymnastics team is back and ready to make an even bigger splash in the 2024-25 season. While their roster boasts a youthful energy, the Gazelles are far from inexperienced.“It truly seems like we’re quite young on paper,but to be honest with you,we have a lot of experiance,” said head coach Justin Olson. “Those girls have been on the varsity team as they were seventh graders.”
This year’s squad features just one senior, Aliya Fluke, meaning the underclassmen will need to step up if the Gazelles want to return to the state meet.
“It’s going to be one of those things where they (the underclassmen) are going to be expected to even play a bigger role into what we’re trying to accomplish, and that is to make the state meet,” Olson explained. “Once we make the state meet it’s going to be one of those things where we just got to lay it on the line and see how high we place.”
Olson is confident in his team’s ability to rise to the challenge.
“They’re a bunch of hardworking girls and these young ladies know how to get it done,” he said. “These girls have the right chemistry and I’m looking forward to using that chemistry in a positive way and earning positive results as we compete.”
the Gazelles will rely on a core group of returning sophomores, including Quinn Brinkman, Ava Dryden, Marissa Byrkeland, and Burkley Olson.A talented group of seven freshmen will also contribute substantially, led by Kaydis Hayes, Jaelyn Vogt, Addison Lanphear, Aubrey Ploof, Emma Gobel, Ellie drotzmann, and Avery Portillo.
The Gazelles will host four home events this season, including the highly anticipated Eastern South Dakota Conference meet on February 1st.
“The conference meet will be at the high school this year, so we’re excited about bringing that level of gymnastics into Yankton,” Olson said.

Yankton Gazelles Gymnastics Ready to Soar in New Season
Yankton, SD – Excitement is building in Yankton as the Gazelles gymnastics team prepares to take the floor for a new season. Coach Jeremy Olson is brimming with confidence, eager to showcase the talent and dedication of his athletes.
“We’ve been going strong since november 4th, so the girls are really anxious to get a meet in,” Olson said. “Right after Thanksgiving, we have our first one, and we’re very excited about that.”
the Gazelles will kick off their season with a home triangular against Mitchell and Parkston-Ethan-Hanson-Mount Vernon on December 3rd. This will be the first possibility for fans to witness the team’s hard work and see the progress they’ve made during the preseason.
Olson has high hopes for the team this year,aiming for consistent scores in the 130s and pushing towards the 140s as the season progresses.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint,” he explained. “We’re looking forward to setting a benchmark with that first meet in December to see where we’re at. We have a team that can achieve those goals, so I’m excited to see where they’re going to be.”
The Gazelles’ schedule is packed with exciting matchups, including home triangulars against Brookings and Harrisburg on January 14th and a home dual against O’Gorman on January 27th. Fans can also catch the team in action at the Jill McCormick Invitational in Mitchell on december 21st and the Brookings Invitational on January 11th.

Event Central just got a whole lot more active. gymnastics and Cheer, a brand new training facility, has opened its doors on the west side of the mall, in the former JC Penney space. The facility boasts state-of-the-art equipment and a welcoming atmosphere for athletes of all ages and skill levels.
“We’re thrilled to bring this incredible space to the community,” said [Name], owner of Gymnastics and Cheer. “Our goal is to provide a fun and supportive environment where kids can learn, grow, and develop a love for gymnastics and cheerleading.”
The facility features a wide range of equipment, including spring floors, balance beams, uneven bars, and tumbling tracks. There are also dedicated areas for cheerleading practice, with mats and stunt equipment.
