Ally Wollaston seized victory at the Tour of Britain Women in Glasgow on Sunday, narrowly defeating Cat Ferguson in the final stage. The dramatic finish saw Wollaston, a new Zealander, overcome a slight deficit to claim the overall cycling title.
Ferguson, a 19-year-old Movistar rider, secured her first WorldTour win on Saturday and started the final day tied with Wollaston. Though, a puncture hampered her chances in the intermediate sprints, allowing Wollaston to close the gap.
Wollaston’s team positioned her perfectly for the final kilometer, enabling her to finish third in the stage behind Lorena Wiebes and secure the four-second overall victory. Karlijn Swinkels finished third overall.

The Tour of Britain Women race proved challenging for several leaders. Kristen Faulkner, who led after stage two, crashed multiple times on Saturday, losing meaningful time. Kim Le Court, the stage one winner, also crashed and later withdrew. Mara roldan, winner of stage two, fractured her femur in a crash on Saturday and also withdrew.
“I am feeling very overwhelmed,” Wollaston said.“It is so exciting and it really couldn’t have gone any better for me today… The plan was to get as many seconds as I could, and unfortunately Cat [Ferguson] was on my wheel for every single one, so it really came down to the last sprint.”
Despite missing the overall win, Ferguson’s performance underscored her potential. The junior world medalist, who signed a three-year pro deal with Movistar, had previously won the Navarra Women’s Elite classic and a stage of the Tour of Britain.

“I headed into the final sprint and I was in an okay position,” Ferguson said. “But I got a bit chopped up on some corners before, and really that was it. Ally went away and I knew that was it. Of course I am gutted but she was the strongest today…I am still happy with second place.”
Wiebes, after struggling in earlier stages due to crashes, rebounded to win the final stage. She expressed satisfaction with her team’s support and her ability to execute the final sprint.

What’s next
Wollaston looks to build on this victory in upcoming races, while Ferguson aims to continue her progress and secure more WorldTour wins. The women’s cycling season promises further exciting competition.
