Gemini App Expands Role: Video Analysis Arrives

Google’s gemini app is broadening its capabilities, now allowing users to upload and analyze video content. This new feature complements⁣ existing functionalities, such as the recently launched navigation drawer and the stable release⁢ of 2.5⁤ Pro.

users can now prompt Gemini with video⁤ files, in addition to ‍documents and images.This expands upon the existing ability to analyze YouTube content by pasting a link. Gemini will analyze the⁣ uploaded video, enabling users to ask specific questions about its content.

Such as, a⁣ user could ask Gemini to identify the time displayed on a Nest‍ Hub within a video. The app then‍ presents the video with a player⁤ interface for review.

In another instance, a user requested a description of a video and received the following response:

⁣ “This looks like a tranquil scene from a ⁢forest in autumn. A narrow path, covered with fallen leaves⁣ in shades of orange, brown, and yellow, winds its⁢ way through the trees.The trees themselves⁢ are a beautiful ⁢mix of fiery reds, oranges, and golden yellows, indicating the peak of the fall foliage ‍season. The sunlight filters through the branches, creating dappled light and shadows on the path and highlighting the vibrant colors of the leaves. There’s a peaceful and serene atmosphere, perfect for a⁢ quiet walk amidst nature’s beauty.The rustling sound ⁣of leaves being stepped on further enhances the autumn forest experience.”

To ⁣upload a video, users can access the plus menu and select “Gallery” or “Files.” If the feature is active,videos⁢ will be selectable; otherwise,they will appear grayed out.

The video‍ upload feature is gradually rolling out. Availability varies across accounts and devices, with functionality appearing on both free and paid accounts on Android (Google app 16.23 beta) ⁤and iOS, as well as 2.5 Flash and 2.5 Pro. The feature is not yet available on the web, displaying an “unsupported file type” message.

Google has not yet‍ updated the built-in Gemini camera to directly capture video for analysis.
