Geneva Mental Health Week 2026 Focuses on Body Image and Self-Esteem

Geneva will host the third edition of its mental health week from October 5 to October 11, 2026, offering roughly 140 free public events focused on self-esteem and body image. The 2026 program centers on the connection between self-image, self-esteem, and overall psychological wellness. Organizers designed the public outreach to help residents find concrete tools and resources for building personal resilience. According to the canton, self-esteem develops over time through personal history, social interactions, and environment, making everyday settings like schools and workplaces key testing grounds for personal vulnerability.

School Programs and Youth Mental Health Prevention

State Council member Anne Hiltpold, who leads the Department of Public Instruction, Training, and Youth, emphasized the role of educational institutions in supporting young people. The role of school is essential for each child in building their personality, confidence, and self-esteem. Hiltpold noted, highlighting that the office médico-pédagogique will open its consultations to the public during the week. These open sessions will feature parent-child mediation workshops and guided discussions regarding mental health.

The initiative forms part of a broader political priority established by the State Council to safeguard the mental health of children, adolescents, and young adults. Sixty Geneva institutions partnered with the Department of Health and Mobilities to organize conferences, workshops, open houses, and athletic or artistic activities across the canton. Digital Age Exhibit and Specialized Roundtable Events

Complementing the broader cantonal schedule, the Children Action Foundation in collaboration with the Fondation Convergences will host a dedicated installation from October 7 to October 18, 2026, on the forecourt of the Maison de l’enfance et de l’adolescence (MEA). Situated inside a specially adapted shipping container, the ECHO CHAMBER exhibition explores how selfies, social media filters, likes, and beauty standards influence adolescent self-perception. The display invites visitors to examine how online sharing impacts personal identity and social comparison.

The week also features a specialized roundtable discussion on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 15:30 to 16:30 at the Swiss Foundation for Innovation and Training Surgery within the HUG. The session, titled Alzheimer’s disease in the age of biomarkers: from primary prevention to new treatments will examine dementia across neurological, psychological, and social dimensions. Pierre Maudet will open the session, which features moderation by Jérémy Seydoux and contributions from Panteleimon Giannakopoulos, Giovanni Frisoni, Sophie Courvoisier, and caregiver Isabelle Borsetti. Attendance on site is limited to 50 participants, with concurrent video streaming available for the public.
